2021 STAR Student and Teacher Announced

Cadet Oscar Fang & Mr. Andy Jobson Receive Awards.
Each year, the Professional Association of Georgia Educators sponsors the Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program. Since its creation, the STAR program has honored nearly 28,000 students and the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement. In order to be nominated, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

Riverside Military Academy is proud to announce that our STAR student for 2021 is Cadet Oscar Fang. Cadet Fang shared the following regarding his future plans: “I want to be a cardiologist because I have always respected and looked up to people in the medical field. When I first began high school, I realized that I wanted to help others, which is why I decided to pursue a career as a physician. My post-secondary plans are to go to school at Georgia Tech, go to med-school, and become a cardiologist.”

Cadet Fang chose Mr. Andy Jobson to be STAR Teacher because of the impact that Mr. Jobson has had on him, both in his English class and as a mentor. Cadet Fang said “This year, as a counselor, he has given me a lot of advice about college and is still a person that I can comfortably talk to. When I reflect on my academic career, I can confidently attribute its success with Mr. Jobson.”

Other cadets have had the same view of Mr. Jobson—this is his third time to be chosen as the STAR Teacher for a cadet at RMA. Congratulations to Cadet Fang and Mr. Jobson on being honored as this year’s STAR Student and Star Teacher!
