RMA Welcomes Chaplain

Brandon A. Knox, MAJOR U.S. Army, is appointed as RMA's chaplain.
Brandon A. Knox, a West Point graduate, combat veteran, and seminarian, has been appointed Riverside Military Academy’s chaplain.

Knox, who lives in Gainesville with his wife Jessica and their three children, will serve part time while he completes his Ph.D. in Evangelism and Missions from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.

His role at RMA will be to provide non-denominational chapel services, as well as counseling and spiritual guidance.

He has extensive service ministering to young people as well as his peers at West Point and during his service in the Army.

“I am honored and humbled to serve at Riverside Military Academy,” said Knox. “I want to mentor and support cadets as future leaders of our world, and encourage cadets in their faith while helping them to grow as leaders of character.”

Knox will also use his Army experience as a project manager and logistics director to build out the revamped RMA summer camp program that is scheduled to debut in 2021.

Most recently he has served as a pastoral resident at Lakewood Baptist Church in Gainesville, chaplain for the Oakwood (Georgia) Police Department, and as the second-in-command for a 500-man battalion supporting the U.S. Army’s Cadet Summer Training Program.

He holds the rank of MAJOR in the U.S. Army and serves in the Army Reserve.

In addition to his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from the United States Military Academy, Knox earned a Master of Divinity in Great Commission Studies from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

While on active duty from 2007 to 2017, he served in the 82nd Airborne Division, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, 75th Ranger Regiment, and several Special Operations Task Forces deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan several times.  During deployments he led men in combat as well as served as an interim chaplain and filled the preaching role on countless occasions.  He was recognized by Navy SEAL Task Force Commander with the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement medal for leadership and ministry support.

“After the events of September, 2001, God laid on my heart to be an ambassador within the military, serving fellow soldiers and their families,” said Knox. “This led to incredible opportunities as a West Point cadet, Army Ranger, and Special Operations veteran to lead and serve both at home and on the battlefield.

“My family and I are grateful for this calling on our lives."
