Letter from the Commandant
Welcome to the Cadet Life section of our website. It is designed to give you an overview of the activities, opportunities, and services available to your son. The links will provide you much more detailed information than I am able to in this short message. I know that it takes a lot of trust to enroll your son in a boarding school and that you are going to have many questions along the way. Please know that we are here before, during, and after enrollment as partners in your cadet’s development.
As the Commandant of Cadets, I oversee many of the activities that occur outside of the classroom, sports fields, and theater. My role is very similar to that of a dean of students and replicates much of what you as parents do for your sons when they are not in class or practice. 96% of our 500+ cadets are boarding students ranging in ages from 12 to 18 years old. They come from 29 countries, 30 states and represent every faith and socio-economic background. So, as you can imagine, my team has a dynamic set of responsibilities critical to a cadet’s experience at Riverside.
Below is a list of some of the important facets of cadet life that the Office of the Commandant oversees:
Good Order and Discipline of the Corps
Company and Room Assignments
Morning and Evening Study Periods
Missing Assignment Tracking
Cadet Leadership Selection
Health, Security, Laundry, and Transportation Services
The Day Cadet Program
These are but a few of the programs I oversee that are in place to support cadet success. There is much more to explore on this site, and I hope you find the information helpful whether you are a prospective or current parent.
Lastly, I encourage you to visit campus and see the Riverside difference for yourself
. I have no doubt that you will be impressed as I was the first time I visited and every day since. It is truly a remarkable place and I am proud to be a part of the team. I hope to see you soon.
