Support RMA Riflery with a 3:1 Match
The G.C. Fisher Rifle Marksmanship Center, Riverside Military Academy's indoor rifle range with state-of-the-art computer scoring for marksmanship, is located in Curtis Hall. The Riverside air rifle team competes in this varsity sport as a member of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) in Area 6 A. All competitions are sanctioned by the National Three-Position Air Rifle Council, and athletes competing in these matches are eligible to earn National Council achievement awards and national records.
Air rifle team training consists of three phases: basic rifle marksmanship, target acquisition, and specificity training. The season runs August through April when cadets participate in training/practice and area competitions during the season. Pre-season training/practice begins in August and ends in December. Practice days are Monday-Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Area competition starts the first week of January and ends with the GHSA State Championship in April.
Any cadet enrolled in JROTC who meets RMA and GHSA eligibility requirements may compete for a position on the team. Recruitment is ongoing from September through December. Following sufficient training and practice, the athlete must be able to attain a competitive score of 273 out of a possible 300 shooting points (at least 92 out of a possible 100 points from the prone position, 87 points out of a possible 100 points from the standing position, and 94 out of a possible 100 points from the kneeling position). Final cuts and roster completion occur in December.
Required clothing and accessories: a shooter's jacket, trousers, shoes, one glove, a rifle sling, and a kneeling heel pad. Each item must meet the specifications/restrictions as outlined in the National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules Book.
