Counseling (Guidance & College)
The Counseling Program at Riverside Military Academy aims to reach all cadets through classroom and grade level guidance, individual conferences, and small groups. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive guidance program that will assist cadets in acquiring the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed to become effective students, responsible citizens, productive workers, and lifelong learners. The program addresses educational, personal/social, and career needs both by design and as needed. We believe that self-awareness, personal responsibility, determination, and respect for self and others are the building blocks for success in each of these areas.
Upon enrollment and at least once each year thereafter, counselors meet individually with cadets to review course history and plan for future classes. We encourage each cadet to explore his potential while pursuing graduation requirements. Each annual conference includes a discussion about post-secondary plans and guidance on exploring career and college options. In addition to the planned annual conference, counselors are available to cadets throughout the year either through personal request or referral from parents or staff.
The counseling office is a resource not only for students, but parents as well. Counselors are available by phone, individual conferences, or at the twice annual Parents’ Weekend during parent/teacher conferences. The counseling office coordinates two parent workshops each year. During the fall Parents’ Weekend, families of seniors are invited to attend a seminar on college financial aid. The spring Parents' Weekend provides an opportunity to discuss the college application process with families of juniors.
Additionally, the counseling office sends out periodic email announcements and provides information for the Family Newsletter as well as the RMA Facebook page. It is our pleasure to be of service, and we will work to meet the needs of our cadets and their families. Please contact us with any questions.
