Is the school accredited and by whom?
Riverside is accredited by both the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Southern Association of Independent Schools.
What is the school's mission and philosophy?
The mission of Riverside Military Academy is to provide a supportive and challenging educational environment that fosters scholarly competence and intellectual curiosity, enhances spiritual and physical fitness, appreciates cultural diversity, and develops leadership skills and the strength of character necessary for success in college and life.
Does the school have a particular educational focus?
Riverside is a college preparatory school for young men in grades 7-12. As an all-boys school, we are able to shape our program in ways that meet the unique educational and developmental needs of boys and provide them tools and skills that help them realize their potential. The military component of our educational environment provides the structure and teaches the leadership skills that instill confidence and character traits that distinguish our graduates from other students.
Are academics rigorous?
Riverside offers a range of college preparatory classes to include honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses to meet the diverse academic needs of our students. As part of its schedule, Riverside maintains two hours of study time each evening, Sunday through Thursday. Teachers are available to assist students during this time.
Riverside's faculty also assists cadets in developing better study habits and time management skills. We offer twice weekly tutorial sessions, during which cadets can meet with teachers to receive additional assistance with assignments.
Is the Corps of Cadets a supportive environment?
Riverside has high expectations for its cadets, and we provide the tools and resources for each student to achieve success. Because our Corps of Cadets work together in company units and teams to achieve their goals, there is a great atmosphere of encouragement and esprit de corps.
How large is the school and its student body?
Riverside's enrollment averages over 400 cadets each year. Our company units each average 40-50 students who reside together in the dormitory. Our average class size of 14 students means that each cadet receives a high level of individual attention.
What is the school's admission deadline?
Riverside Military Academy has a rolling admission policy, which means we can accept cadets any time prior to the last two months of the school year. However, we encourage most students to enroll at the beginning of fall or spring semester or at the beginning of our summer academic program.
Where is the school located, and what are the transportation options?
Riverside is located in Gainesville, Georgia, about an hour northeast of Atlanta. Gainesville is a suburban community located on Lake Sidney Lanier and in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Riverside is easily accessible from the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport via AAA Airport Express (shuttle) or other private transportation. Additionally, there are commercial bus and railroad depots in Gainesville.
Are students required to enter the military after graduation?
No. As a college preparatory school, the majority of our graduates go on to pursue degrees in traditional colleges and universities.
