At Riverside Military Academy, we've been educating young men for over 105 years. We understand how they learn and what motivates them. It's why our single-sex classrooms and boarding school environment offer such powerful advantages. There are fewer distractions, more open discussions, smaller class sizes, curriculum and lessons that engage young men, and individualized opportunities to help each one achieve his maximum potential in every academic area.

An increasing amount of scientific research confirms what parents and educators have known for a long time — there are differences in the ways boys and girls learn and interact with others. Riverside has designed its program, including the daily academic schedule, around the way boys learn and retain information.

All About Boys - All Day, Every Day

At Riverside, every day is structured around young men and their needs. The books we read are chosen based on their appeal to boys – because, for a boy, a book such as The Red Badge of Courage is just more interesting. Our classes are 45 minutes in length versus 90-minute classes in many schools. Shorter classes fit the way boys learn. Our teachers incorporate hands-on lessons so that boys can “do,” as well as sit and listen. This is a school of all boys, all about boys, all day long.

Motivation Found

When a young man underperforms in school he may be distracted, lack motivation, or be lost in a large student body where his individual needs are not being met. Riverside provides a stable environment where every student has the opportunity to succeed. A boy knows when he is not meeting his true potential. Riverside can literally change a life - by helping to motivate and support the student while instilling the structure and discipline he needs and ultimately desires.

Tools for Success

Our cadets are equipped with the necessary skills for success. They are taught organizational and time management skills. They receive instruction in note-taking procedures and test-taking skills. They are taught study skills that are specific to individual learning styles. They are given all these important tools and more to help them succeed in the classroom and in life!
